Poll #4 The Carlines and Their Health

Please make comments about your particular health problem. That will definitely help us to narrow this down a little.

It seems many of the Carline family suffer from autoimmune diseases so we would like to see how many of us have them. No one will know that you particapted. If you or anyone you know have or has had one please check the appropiate box. I'll not list them all but a few are: lupus, diabetes,Sjogren's syndrome, Guillain-Barr, Multiple Sclerosis, Addison's disease. We'd like to see if there is a trait that causes us to be more likely to acquire these diseases. This may help futher generations.

TO CARLINE FAMILY MEMBERS: This is an informal account of the CARLIN/CARLINS involved with boating. Most of what is written here, except for the 1819 article, is from hearing about it from family members and is therefore lacking and incomplete. Additions, comments or corrections are welcome and appreciated. Personal stories about boating experiences would be of much interest. Favourite - A keelboat usually operating out of Franklin, Louisiana. Built at Cincinnati, Ohio, 1818. Dimensions: 88 feet, 2 inches x 12 feet 6 inches. Displacement 21 46/96 tons. Draft 2 feet. Enrolled (entry no. 143), December 22, 1819.

Owners: D. Carlin, H. Carlin, and S. Salles of Franklin. Master: D. Carlin.

Note: Two sons of Joseph Carlin - Dennis Carlin, Honore Carlin, and the son-in-law of their brother Alexis, Sylvain de Salles (married to Hortense Carlin) - are the three owners of this boat.

THE ATCHAFALAYA BASIN
Mose Carlin & Lizzie Boyce their ancestors and descendants had much to do with boats and being around water. Those that lived in the Atchafalaya Basin used boats for transportation and to make a living by fishing, hunting, trapping, moss picking and logging.

When they left the basin many made their homes near the water in or near the towns of Jeanerette, Charenton, Centerville and Morgan City and fished full and part-time. The ones that didn’t fish commercially usually fished for recreation.

Richard Carline began his boating career as a cook on a boat and worked his way into management and is in his _______ year in the boating industry.

David was one of the youngest captains in the Gulf of Mexico. He has taken boats overseas.

Jack Wendell Carline’s daughter Lorraine is a boat crew coordinator/scheduler for a large boat company in the Houma, Louisiana area.

Jack Wendell Carline was an engineer for Tidewater Marine.

Our grandparents had 11 children.Two died when they were young,and nine grew up and had families of their own. Alberta or Elberta was 9 years when she died. She was hooked or gored in the stomach by a cow. Buried in Bayou Chene. They had a son named Mose, he was 12 years old when he died with meningitis. I had known about him for a long time. When visiting Uncle Binky, I asked him about Mose. He is the one who gave me the cause of death and age of death. Buried in Bayou Chene.

The little boy has grown up!!!! He is Donald, son of Iona (Mose Carline and Elizabeth Boyce) Carline and Anthony Dugas. Don married Peggy while he was in college. He served in the army and was stationed in Germany. He and Peggy had the opportunity to travel and get to know a lot about the country of Germany. They came back to Louisiana and settled down to civilian life.

Their family consist of 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

Mose Carline and Elizabeth Boyce had 10 children. They were: Alice, Elvin, George, Eunice, Elizabeth, William, Alberta, Annie, Iona and Ivory. Ivory is the only one still living and at 93 is still going strong.

You guys did good with the poll but next time I'd like to see a lot more votes. There is nothing wrong with guessing. No one knows who cast what vote - not even me.

Joseph Carlin, Jr., the first known Carlin in America

Joseph Vincent Carlin (probably Giuseppe Vincenzo Carlini), the son of Joseph Carlini and Maria Gerbinatti was a native of Geona, Italy. He was born about 1730 and died December 30, 1809. Nothing is known of his reasons for coming to America, but he arrived in New Orleans as a French soldier sometime between April, 1758 and January 1, 1759. He is listed among those in the military companies detached from New Orleans as of January 1, 1759. At the time he was in Gasmont's company.

On December 9, 1759, he is recorded among those who are going upriver to the German Coast under the command of Frederick Darensbourg. How long he stayed at Fort des Allemands is difficult to say, but in July 1762 he appears on the General Roll of Louisiana Troops in the military service on January 1, 1763.
